The 𝓟𝓸𝓻𝓽𝓾𝓰𝓾𝓮𝓼𝓮 𝓟𝓱𝓲𝓵𝓱𝓪𝓻𝓶𝓸𝓷𝓲𝓬 𝓞𝓻𝓬𝓱𝓮𝓼𝓽𝓻𝓪 presents The Planets by Gustav Holst! 
Composed between 1914 and 1916, The Planets is a symphonic suite with seven movements, written for a large orchestra and featuring a female choir in the final movement. Holst’s starting point for this music was the astrological character of each planet. His daughter wrote that once he had formulated the underlying idea, he “let the music come to him.” The clues to the meaning of the music are the very themes he assigned to each planet.
The program is completed with a performance of La Valse, celebrating the 150th anniversary of Maurice Ravel’s birth. One of his most iconic works, La Valse was conceived as a tribute to the Viennese waltzes of Johann Strauss II and was described by the composer as a “choreographic poem.”
