To mark Portugal Day, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities, the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Osvaldo Ferreira, will perform at the Palacio de Liria, in the Spanish capital, celebrating the richness and diversity of Portuguese musical heritage in dialogue with great classics of the European repertoire.
The program will begin with the renowned Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana by P. Mascagni, a piece of profound emotional depth, marked by an intense and moving melody. It will be followed by the iconic Bolero by Maurice Ravel, one of the most hypnotic and ingenious works in the symphonic repertoire, commemorating the 150th anniversary of the composer’s birth. The program concludes with the energetic and colorful Fandango from the Alentejana Suite No. 1 by Luís de Freitas Branco, inspired by the traditional dances and sounds of southern Portugal — a vibrant affirmation of Portuguese musical identity.
