Finally making its national premiere, the masterpiece by American composer Samuel Barber, Vanessa (1957). Vanessa has spent the last twenty years waiting for a former lover whom she blindly believes will return. She holds her family hostage to this vain hope—until the supposed lover does return. But is he real or an impostor? Will Vanessa choose to continue living in the web she herself has woven, or will she finally face reality?
The composer of the famous Adagio for Strings offers us an opera of deeply inspired and vibrant music, with a libretto by Gian Carlo Menotti, centered on illusion and shattered dreams, the passage of time, and the refusal to confront the harsh reality of life and human relationships. Portrayed by soprano Catarina Molder, the production features stage direction by German director Daniela Kerck and musical direction by Diogo Costa.
