The Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra presents the opera Die Fledermaus (The Bat) by Johann Strauss II. Premiered in 1874 at the renowned Theater an der Wien in Vienna, under the direction of the composer himself, this masterpiece has earned a permanent place in the global repertoire. Set on New Year’s Eve, the opera celebrates the music that made the heart of the Austrian capital beat with waltzes, czardas, and unforgettable melodies. An unmissable invitation to start 2025 with joy and vibrancy!
Die Fledermaus (The Bat), a comic opera by Johann Strauss Jr., with a libretto by Carl Haffner and Richard Genée, is a work that combines humor, elegance, and exuberant music.
Inspired by the French vaudeville Le Réveillon, the story unfolds during a New Year’s Eve party filled with disguises, misunderstandings, and good-humored revenge. Presented in its full form, this production celebrates Strauss’s genius, who captured the effervescence of 19th-century imperial Vienna like no other.
