PROJECT AND REPERTOIRE
This year, the Portuguese Academic Philharmonic Orchestra is hosting the European project “Sounds of Change” for the “Orchestra-Circus Internship: Reimagining Don Quixote” program, which will include young musicians from all parts of Europe, in addition to our Portuguese academists for performing concerts in Portugal and Spain.
This project will take place during July 2024, and the internship will be held in Guarda. These auditions are also for the performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra in March and April 2024 (dates to be announced).
We thank you for your interest in participating in the auditions of the Orquestra Académica Filarmónica Portuguesa. We would like to inform you that the deadline for in-person auditions ended on November 15th, 2023.
However, we are now accepting spontaneous applications by sending video recordings. Interested musicians can send their applications by filling out the accessible form, see letter D.
Rules and Important Information:
A. Auditions are for the following instruments: Violin, Viola d’arco, Cello, Double bass, Flute, Piccolo, Oboe, English Horn, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, Tuba, Percussion and Harp.
B. Registration is open to all young Portuguese musicians, or foreign students or residents in Portugal.
C. Candidates must be aged between 16 and 25 (reference date – July 1, 2024).
D. Registration must be done through this link following the filling instructions.
F. Musicians have the option to choose between in-person auditions or video submission. Changes in the choice of modality will only be authorized for reasons of force majeure after registration.
G. In-person tests are taking place in the following locations and dates:
– Lisbon (Centro Cívico Edmundo Pedro, Alvalade) – November 2nd and 3rd
– Guarda (Conservatory of São José) – November 22nd
– Castelo Branco (ESART) – November 22nd (for winds and percussion) and November 23rd (for strings)
– Porto (Fontes Pereira de Melo Secondary School) – November 25th
The in-person hearings are being recorded for the record.
H. To send a video (registrations after November 15th), the procedure is as follows:
– Include the link to the video with the respective repertoire in the response to the form.
