Born in Lisbon, Sónia Majewska de Figueiredo began her violin studies at the age of five at the Musical Foundation of the Friends of Children with Professor Klára Erdei. She later continued her studies at the Nossa Senhora do Cabo Music School with Professor Marilyn Brito, where she completed the 9th grade in violin.
In 2016, she entered the Escola Profissional Metropolitana in the violin class of Professor Romeu Madeira.
Between 2019 and 2022, she studied at the National Superior Orchestra Academy in the violin class of Professor Ana Pereira, completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Orchestral Performance.
In June 2024, she completed her Master’s Degree at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, in the violin class of Professor Agnieszka Marucha.
She has been awarded prizes in several competitions, including:
3rd Prize at the 18th Cidade do Fundão International Competition (2017);
2nd Prize at the 3rd Cidade do Montijo National Competition (2018);
2nd Prize at the 3rd National Musical Interpretation Competition (2018);
1st Prize ex aequo at the 4th Cidade do Montijo National Competition (2019);
1st Prize ex aequo at the INATEL Foundation Prize (which gave her the opportunity to perform as a soloist with the Metropolitan Professional School Orchestra); and
3rd Prize at the 20th Cidade do Fundão International Competition (2019).
Throughout her training, she has taken part in numerous violin masterclasses and courses with renowned musicians such as Aníbal Lima, Simon Fischer, Eszter Haffner, Réka Szilvay, Olivier Charlier, Ana Beatriz Manzanilla, Corey Cerovsek, Barbara Doll, Alissa Margulis, Tobias Gossmann, and Jack Liebeck, among others.
She has also worked with a wide range of conductors, including Emilio Pomàrico, Michael Zilm, Patrick Fournillier, Simon Gaudenz, Ruben Gazarian, Thomas Wicklein, Pedro Carneiro, Sebastian Perłowski, Pedro Neves, Anna Duczmal-Mróz, Nuno Coelho, Maciej Niesiołowski, Christian Knüsel, Jean-Marc Burfin, Pedro Amaral, and Kerem Hasan, among others.
She was a member of the Portuguese Youth Orchestra from 2017 to 2019 and, since 2022, has been part of the Neue Philharmonie München in Germany. She also joined the Alto Minho Youth Orchestra in 2022.
Sónia is regularly invited to perform with several orchestras, including the Metropolitan Orchestra of Lisbon, the Municipal Orchestra of Sintra – D. Fernando II, the Algarve Symphony Orchestra, the Płock Symphony Orchestra (Witold Lutosławski), and the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra.
She is currently an academist at the Duale Orchesterakademie Thüringen in Germany, having joined the Jenaer Philharmonie for the 2024/2025 season.
Since August 2025, she has been a member of the Philharmonisches Orchester Altenburg Gera.
