Tomás Lyckfeldt, born in 2006 in Coimbra, Portugal, began his musical studies in bassoon at the age of 10 at the Artistic School of the Coimbra Conservatory of Music, under Professor José Pedro Figueiredo. He later continued his studies at the School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE) in Porto, in the class of Professor Pedro Silva.
He has worked with numerous youth orchestras, such as the Academic Orchestra of the Portuguese Philharmonic, the Portuguese Youth Orchestra, and the Youth Orchestra of the Official Music Conservatories. Expanding his orchestral experience, he has also collaborated with several professional ensembles, including the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, the Portuguese Chamber Orchestra, and the Classical Orchestra of the Centre. He also performed as a soloist in G. Rossini’s Bassoon Concerto with the Classical Orchestra of the Centre.
Tomás Lyckfeldt has received several awards in competitions, including 2nd place in the 2024 Young Musicians Competition (Intermediate Level – Bassoon), 1st Prize and the Discovery Award at the Paço Premium International Competition 2024, 1st and 3rd Prizes at the Oliveira de Azeméis International Wind Competition, and 3rd place at the CAF (Final-Year Students Competition) of the Coimbra Conservatory of Music.
He has had the opportunity to work with renowned bassoonists such as Giorgio Mandolesi, Carlo Colombo, Tobias Pelkner, Raffaele Giannotti, Andrea Cellacchi, Vincenzo Menghini, Reynold Cárdenas, Achille Dallabon, Rui Lopes, Pedro Martinho, Ricardo Ramos, Clara Manaud, Francisca Bastos, Raquel Saraiva, Andreia Pereira, and Ana Catarina Matos, among others.
He has also worked under the baton of several conductors, including Osvaldo Ferreira, Pedro Carneiro, Robert Houlihan, Jan Wierzba, Michelangelo Galeati, José María Valiente, Pablo Urbina, Luís Carvalho, Tiago Oliveira, and Francisco Loreto.
