The Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra celebrates this festive season with its much-anticipated and beloved Christmas Concert, presenting to the audience the Christmas Oratorio (Part I) by Johann Sebastian Bach. Composed in 1734, this monumental sequence of six cantatas narrates, with spiritual depth and musical exuberance, the story of Christ’s birth.

In this Part I of the Christmas Oratorio, Cantatas I and II will be performed. These cantatas evoke, respectively, the jubilant joy of Christmas and the serene contemplation of the Adoration of the Shepherds. Bach’s masterful counterpoint, combined with the brilliance of the solo voices, choir, and orchestra, will guide the audience on a musical journey where the sacred, the human, and the celebratory intertwine.
